NAI’s smart function module architecture integrates dedicated localized processing and FPGA resources to provide higher-level data and signal management capability to off-load the application processor.

This additional functionality includes (function dependent): channel usage initialization and configuration control, Power-on Built-In-Test (PBIT), non-intrusive background Continuous Built-In-Test (CBIT), application Initiated Built-In-Test (IBIT), signal processing, data scaling, closed loop current/voltage/frequency control, wave form generation, PWM control, Real-Time Fast Fourier Transform, hosting customer applications, MATLAB Simulink S-function files, local Watchdog timer monitoring and management, etc.

Each NAI smart I/O module provides a fundamental system architecture that yields the highest degree of Fault Detection Isolation (FDI) and reporting.
